I used to believe that if I asked God for something I would have to give something back in return. This was perhaps through ignorance and was the reason for me not reading my Bible or going to church.

About 8 or 9 years ago I was introduced to Bridge Street Church. After joining the church I heard many interesting sermons, especially the ones that hit home. However, I felt that the more I listened the less I knew.

I attended the Alpha Course as I was eager to learn more. I learned all about how Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but still I was not absorbing the information as I wished I would. This led me to join the New Life Group which I found very interesting. My life was beginning to change. We were given some homework one week on ‘Sin and Repentance’. I found this piece of work quite hard and was struggling to get it completed. A couple of days later I met 2 ladies from our Church doing an Outreach in my neighbourhood. They asked me if I was alright and I told them I was having problems with my homework on Sin. They gave me a booklet called ‘Journey into Life’. Later as I read it I was amazed. It was just what I needed to complete my homework—hence the saying GOD WILL PROVIDE. (I was brought up on those 3 words)

The Lord knew I had been praying into different situations but never got any answers, until one of the Outreach ladies came to me one Sunday and said God had told her to tell me “that He hears my prayers but there is something blocking them” (I knew what it was!!) I was scared at first and kept asking her “How did He know that?” and she replied “God knows everything.”

From then on I started to trust in the Lord more and more. I prayed and read the bible more. I felt that I had put things right with God. By getting rid of the stumbling blocks, things changed and my life is better. I prayed, repented and asked God for forgiveness of my sins, and to forgive me for not trusting him sooner. I asked Jesus to come into my life and be my Lord and Saviour.
“I know that I have and will be tested, but I know that He loves me
and He will never leave me or forsake me.” Thank you Lord!
