The word ‘science’ is simply no more that that – a word! It is used generally to encompass a huge number of disciplines that are used to try to understand our world and the nature of life itself. The word is generally used to refer to the ‘experimental’ sciences. Someone has a bright idea and devises experiments to either prove or disprove it. For something to be established as scientific ‘fact’ these experiments need to be able repeatedly to prove that the idea works. The evidence of experimental science is all around us in the structures we make and the medical help we take to name but two. We are willing to get on a plane or boat or car because we know (or trust) that experimental science has proved that they will work. We will take medicines because we believe that they have been thoroughly tested and proven to work.

This is not and can never be the ‘science’ evolutionists call on to justify their belief in evolution. There is not one single aspect of the theory of evolution that can be tested and proven in this way. Evolutionists rely on historical ‘science’ to justify their beliefs. In fact the term is a misnomer because no experimental science can be conducted on things in the past. When a paleontologist looks at a fossil he is seeing something that exists to-day. He will try to use his knowledge of science to guess at what the fossil may once have been and how old it is now. All those wonderful pictures and models of animals and pre-humans that fill museums, TVs, magazines, books and newspapers, the re-created creatures of Jurassic Park et al are all creatures, to a large degree, of the imagination.

Evolutionists, many of academic distinction, will claim that science proves that the theory is actually fact. In this many are being dishonest because they actually know that it cannot be established as fact. However, they want so much to believe that the theory is true that they behave foolishly and claim foolish things.
(Isaiah 29:14 ‘Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder;
The wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.’)

It has been said that science can tell you how something works but not why it works. Even that is not always true.

Science cannot be trusted completely because, by its experimental and questing nature, what it thinks is true to-day it may prove wrong to-morrow. Science is a tool. Trust it as much as you would trust a spanner or an electric drill, being aware of the limitations of tools.

Historical science cannot be trusted at all. It is based on supposition, superstition, human bias and a large dollop of imagination. It is not science. Its claims cannot be substantiated. When someone assures you that something happened 35 million years ago, ask them if they know anyone who witnessed the occurrence. They would have no other way of knowing.

Christians must trust the word of God. He was there and he is here. The only Witness.
