During 2003 we learned that our part of the city centre was going to be redeveloped. The scheme would involve an £800 million mixed-use, retail-led development.
We were approached by the developers, Hammerson and entered into discussions about a replacement building due to ours being demolished as part of the redevelopment. To cut a long story short… the developers, being under obligation to accommodate us as part of the scheme, purchased a school only half a mile from our current site; Agnes Stewart Church of England School on our behalf, on the agreement that we would meet the extra cost as the school site is much bigger than our building now.
Who will benefit? ... The local and wider community, including...
Parents and children
mums/dads and toddlers, lending library, parenting courses, support for single parents, holiday clubs and ‘kidz klub’.
Young People
After school clubs, Homework clubs, Dance, Music, Drama, Missions, Sports facilities, Youth Centre.
Adult services
Counselling, luncheons for the elderly, support for people overseas, fellowship groups. In additon to all of this there will be an 800 seat auditorium, a cafe and large foyer area. We also have plans for a 2000 Seat Auditorium!!
